Privacy Policy

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to WinPane, a macOS menu bar app. It explains how WinPane processes and protects information on your Mac while providing window layouts, keyboard shortcuts, custom layouts, display language, window spacing, and launch-at-login features.

This policy reflects the actual data handling of the current public version. If a future version adds networking, accounts, cloud synchronization, crash reporting, analytics, advertising, or other data processing capabilities, this policy and the App Store privacy disclosures will be updated before those features are released.

3. Information WinPane Accesses and Processes on Your Mac

3.1 Accessibility and window information. When you select a window layout or use a configured shortcut, WinPane uses the Accessibility permission granted by macOS to identify application windows that can be moved and resized on your Mac. The information processed may include the application that owns a window, its title when provided by the system, position, size, and minimized or full-screen state.

This information is used only to distinguish real, movable application windows, match them with the system window list, and adjust their position and size according to the layout you select. WinPane does not read window body text, webpage content, document content, passwords, chat messages, or form content.

3.2 Screen and pointer position. WinPane reads the current pointer position, display name, and usable display work area on your Mac to determine which screen should receive the layout and to avoid areas occupied by the menu bar and Dock. This information is not saved or uploaded.

3.3 Global keyboard shortcuts. WinPane registers only the specific shortcut combinations you configure with macOS and applies the associated layout when one of those combinations is triggered. The app does not record ordinary keyboard input, create a keystroke history, or act as a keylogger.

3.4 Launch at login. If you enable Launch WinPane at Login, the app uses the macOS system login-item feature. The operating system manages this setting, and you can disable it at any time in WinPane Settings or macOS System Settings.

4. Settings Stored Locally

To remember your choices, WinPane stores the display language, window spacing, custom layouts, shortcut combinations, and necessary feature toggle states in local app data on your Mac.

These settings remain on your Mac and are not uploaded, synchronized, or shared by WinPane. WinPane does not provide an account and does not use iCloud or a WinPane-operated cloud service to store these settings.

5. Network Access, Data Collection, and Third-Party Services

The current version does not initiate network requests, operate a cloud server, or integrate advertising networks, user analytics, telemetry, marketing, user profiling, cross-app tracking, or third-party crash-reporting SDKs. WinPane does not collect device identifiers, IP addresses, precise location, contacts, photos, media, clipboard content, file contents, payment information, or account credentials.

Under Apple’s definition of collection for App Store privacy labels, information processed only on the device and not sent off the device is not collected by the app. Therefore, provided that the released app remains consistent with this policy, WinPane’s current data collection status is “Data Not Collected.”

When you download or purchase the app through the App Store, Apple may independently process Apple Account, transaction, device, or diagnostic information. Apple is responsible for that processing under its own privacy policy; it is not information collected or controlled by WinPane.

6. Data Sharing, Sale, and International Transfers

Because WinPane does not receive user data, it does not share, sell, rent, or license user data to affiliates, advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties, and WinPane does not conduct international transfers of personal information.

7. Retention, Deletion, and Revoking Permission

Window metadata, screen information, and pointer position exist in memory only while the relevant action is performed. After the action is complete, this information is not written to a remote database or retained as a long-term user profile.

Local preferences such as language, spacing, layouts, and shortcuts are retained until you reset them in WinPane Settings or clear the app’s local data through macOS. Deleting only the app itself may leave some preferences on your Mac. To remove them completely, you can reset app data in Settings before uninstalling WinPane.

You can disable WinPane’s Accessibility permission at any time under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility. After permission is disabled, WinPane cannot identify, move, or resize windows belonging to other apps. You can also recheck or reset authorization status in the app and disable launch at login.

To support reliable operation, WinPane may generate limited local runtime logs on your Mac. These logs do not contain window body text, passwords, or keyboard input, are not uploaded automatically by WinPane, and are managed by local macOS mechanisms.

8. Security Measures

WinPane follows data-minimization and local-first principles. It accesses only the information necessary when you use a relevant feature, maintains no remote account or database, does not upload window information, does not integrate third-party services for advertising, tracking, or user profiling, and relies on macOS permission controls to limit access. No local software can guarantee absolute security, but this design substantially reduces exposure of your data.

9. Children’s Privacy

WinPane is a general productivity tool. It does not offer accounts, social features, content publishing, or targeted services to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Your Choices and Contact

WinPane does not maintain cloud accounts, so it cannot remotely locate, export, correct, or delete local preferences stored on an individual user’s Mac. You can view and manage the relevant settings, reset app data, disable launch at login, or revoke Accessibility permission directly on your Mac.

11. Policy Updates

This policy may be updated when features, technology, legal obligations, or App Store requirements change. Material changes will be communicated through an appropriate method, and the effective date will be updated in the new policy. Unless otherwise stated, an updated policy applies from the effective date shown.
